Bristol Museums Collections

Integrating collections for the museum’s next generation platform.

Bristol Museums have several sites including historic houses, and diverse collections databases covering everything from art to natural history. They needed a clean and fast collections search that brought the wealth of their data within reach of users.

We built a website with our collections integration software at its heart, which delivered their collections, with HTML built from their designers’ flat designs.

We also developed additional WordPress blocks that give Bristol Museums the power to deliver rich stories using their collections, written by both in-house experts and community collaborators. This excellent history of rioting in Bristol is a great example of what can be done with the platform.

Quick facts

Look out for..

We needed to move to a modern and robust solution for publishing our collections, stories and exhibitions online. The Museum Platform have worked with us to develop a user friendly search interface and site architecture that helps drive our mission of sharing Bristol Museums’ stories with communities locally and globally. Their collaborative approach has been instrumental in enabling us to fine tune the data pipeline  for content updates according to our capabilities and organisational rhythm.

Through the dynamically generated ‘related records’ users are encouraged to discover more without any needing any additional resource for content creation. We’re seeing a lot more traffic to our online shop and print on demand  as well due to the onward links and calls to action we have developed. Finally Mike and Jeremy/TMP are genuinely passionate about this stuff and a nice bunch which makes all the difference to smooth running of a project.

Mark Pajak, Head of Transformation, Bristol Museums

We’re continuing to work actively with the team at Bristol Museums. With the online collection we’re developing and extending the collections online site with new records, exhibitions functionality and more. We are also rolling out our kiosk functionality in their flagship M Shed museum, with the aim of extending this during 2026/27.
